HVAC Hacks: Tips for Novices and New Homeowners

Improve The Air Quality In Your Home

The quality of air in your home can have a huge impact on your everyday life. You want to have the highest quality air possible, but it can be tricky to have high quality air in your home. There are a few different things that you can do that can have a positive impact on your indoor air quality. This article is going to outline three different things that you can do that will help you have the cleanest air possible in your home.

Air Ducts

One aspect that a lot of people will overlook is the cleanliness of their air ducts. Most air ducts in homes never get cleaned. The problem is that all different types of debris can buildup in your air ducts. Some of the most common forms of debris are dust and mold. Dust and mold are known to give individuals a lot of upper respiratory problems. You may notice during the winter when you spend more time indoors that you are sick more often. Most of the time people think that it is the cold weather, but it could be that spending more time indoors is exposing you to your dirty air ducts. To clean your air ducts you can regularly vacuum them, but at least once a year you should have them professionally cleaned.

Humidity

You are also going to want to be very careful with the humidity in your home. Remember that different bacterias, molds, and fungus are going to love to live in really moist or humid areas. You want to keep the humidity in your home less that 50% because this will limit the moisture that these different allergens and bacterias can live. In order to keep your home the right humidity you might want to try a de-humidifier and also run a clean air conditioner. These will help you keep the humidity at the healthiest levels possible.

No Smoking

One of the biggest problems that people run into with a home is that they tend to smoke in their home. Make your home a non smoking home and you will dramatically increase the quality of air in your home. If you need to smoke you can try smoking outside the home even on the deck. Just make sure that your home is a smoke free home. You and your loved ones will have less exposure to second hand smoke. This is something small that can give you drastic results.
